Another method is to not loose it in the first place. Often when coming up the owner clipps it to their BC. The stupid lanyards on the aftermarket handles break regularly. The lanyard is OK but the transition piece is often flimsy string that fails. Often the failure is by it catching on the ladder or when taking it off at the surface and it subsequently being hauled up it snags and the lanyard string fails.
Several weeks back I watched another one get lost and we backtracked and the DM re-entered and found it.
I carry extra 1/8" bungee and retied it then spotted several more flimsy lanyards later in the week on other GoPro's and convinced the owners to replace them with bungee I gave them.
