Dove Ft Wetherill today with the Middel town PD.

Conditions were good. Water temp was 36 degrees vis was a solid 15 feet.

Saw some flats and lobster but that was about it

Brrrrr! I dove there in the summer in my 7mm. I'll wait 'till spring or until I get a drysuit before I jump back in :) Sounds like the vis was pretty good though.

Hey Folks, Planning on going to Fort Wetherill in May with our local dive club. Any info on what to expect would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and safe diving.

Hey Rick. I dove up there a few times. I'm guessing you'll be in the same cove where I was at. On the right side is a sheltered cove where all the local dive shops do their training. No surge. Vis was about 10-15 fsw. We dove mainly on the left side cove facing the ocean. You can encounter some decent surge here. Vis about 10-15 fsw but at times can get down to 5 fsw or less. If you swim out far along the wall you can get to 70 fsw. If you plan on that bring lights, it can can real dark. You have to walk down a dirt path and it's a very rocky shore entry. Make sure your air is on and your BC is pumped up a bit. There are some deep pockets as you wade out to put on your fins. If you can brave the rocky entry the dive is worth it if the vis is ok. I saw flounder, lobster, spider crabs, anemonies and many starfish. We also drove over to another area (there are 4 or 5 areas connected) called Beavertail (parking lot 2) but the tide was out and very rough surf. Not diveable. Looked like an advanced shore dive for sure. Anyway that's all I got. Dive safe and have fun.
