Orion612004 and I dove Folly Cove last night. Orion had never dove Folly, but we knew the tide was low and entry can be tricky, so we decided to scope it out and see if it was doable. Just checked the tide chart now and it was rock bottom low tide at 7:54pm and we were in the water around 8:10pm. Lots of slimy ankle breaker rocks. Had a reduced surface swim with the tide being so low. We dove the left side wall.
Visibility when we dropped down in about 10fsw was pretty terrible, about 3' but it cleared as we neared the wall. Sun was setting and we switched to lights early on in the dive. Visibility ranged from 5-10', 63 minute bottom time and a max depth of 41fsw. No noticeable thermocline, temp was 55-57*F for the duration of the dive. Went out to the point, stopped to say hi to the northern red anemone, then turned around and headed back. Saw some good-sized cod, lots of skates and a couple flounder, sea cucumbers out at the point, and squid eggs in the shallows.
The weather looked iffy yesterday afternoon, but it turned out to be a beautiful evening and an enjoyable dive.
