Took afternoon off to dive Folly with my daughter who just completed her OW over the weekend. It was her first dive since being certified. I have been waiting so long to have her dive with me and try out Folly. Made sure conditions were ideal for her first dive there and they were. We arrived just as high tide (2:15 PM) was approaching. Sunny day, flat seas. Winds ESE 5-10 knots
We were in at 2:31.
44 min BT, 30 fsw max depth
Surface temp 55 and temp at depth (near point 44-46 degrees)
Vis 15 feet
We surface swam across the sand to left side and dropped down just as approached the wall. We were greeted by first critter sightings.. Flounder and then a Striper (2 feet?) A few buoyancy adjustments later, leisurely cruised the left side of the wall towards the point and of course stopping a long the way to have her feed the resident Northern Red Anemone.
She really enjoyed the sea stars/star fish on the pink granite walls and even the hermit crabs. On way back, came across a nice decent sized Lobzilla (egger) that was out in the open. Given the size, wanted to have nothing to do with it. She was also interested in other critters we saw (Moon Snail, skate, flounder, Crabs, sand dollars and hermit crabs. I also came across squid eggs which showed her.
Not bad for 1st shake down dive. We had a blast filling out her log book this evening.
Next trip, Old Garden!
