What is the best way to get your mask not to fogg up. The whole spitting thing puts me off and that does not work very well...

If it's a new mask, make sure you clean it before use to get rid of the chemical coatings on the mask. The best way is to use white toothpaste which acts as a low abrasive scrub. You'll have all sorts of fog issues if you don't clean a mask.

You can buy commercial defog from most LDS - but IMO spit is the way to go both for convenience and performance!

That's a new one.

Check my sig line. (or wait for the 321 responses on how to spend money for it)

I don't know about the "BEST" way. I use the 500psi mask defog and it works great from me. I've heard baby shampoo works great, and toothpaste, etc. I may give that stuff a shot soon as my current supply is running low.

I've used spit before, and it works. But I just prefer NOT to do that.

My problem with spit is that I often don't have enough of it when I need it.

I use toothpaste now. Never tried gel, I use Pepsodent paste. I'll prolly give the baby shampoo a shot this year.

Also, don't exhale through your nose. My wife can't seem to master this. Her nose is constantly leaking bubbles and the water vapor in her breath causes her mask to fog more. Other than that we use some brand of defog. Works great for me. I've never tried the toothpaste or shampoo method but I plan to as soon as it's warm enough to dive again. (I'm a cold water wimp)

BABY SHAMPOOOOOOOOOO
think of it this way, you can always have double use for it after you finish you dive
But seriously, once your mask has been cleaned well (once its new) you can use toothpaste or shampoo.
This might sound crazy, but it workssssssssss, make sure your forehead is clean of sweet/grease (can't remember where i read it) as it seems the heat/evaporation process that takes place in your mask effects it. i had a student who couldn't keep his mask from defogging until he wiped his forehead with the "shampoo" - see i told you shampoo can be used for so many things - ;)
Aslo, when you use the shampoo, make sure you apply it early enough before you hit the water. A mask that has "shampooed" before like 15-30 mints before you hit the water wokes better than one that just got treated before you go in (don't ask me why? i'm not a chemist lol)

It is true, however what do you do if your mask is with a valve???
