Ok so in right around three weeks, I'm trying to go out to the Flower garden banks, in the gulf of mexico. My wife will be working as crew for the trip, as she sometimes does. Hopefully all will go well and I'll be able to get on the trip, there are some reasons I may not be able to go, which I'll not get into here, but I'll keep everyone posted on what's out there, if I get to go.

BTW, not sure if I mentioned this, but I'll be getting my AOW cert next week, so I've that to look forward to as well.

You mean like on the SPREE, the FLING, or the SEA SEARCHER? Or on your own boat?

Whichever, hope you make the trip, it's a great venue (weather permitting of course).

And good luck with AOW. Good to have that before Flower Gardens/Stetson.

If you're on the Fling or Spree, I KNOW you'll have a great trip (I think the Searcher has suspended their FG trips. The last I heard--about Christmas-- that was the case.)
I'm a volunteer for the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, and I try to get out there as much as I can. Obviously, I'm a bit partial to the diving there, but I can say objectively that it's a truly unique reef system with a great deal of variety and opportunities to see lots of critters. The reef systems are spectacular (each in its own way), pelagics make frequent appearances, and night dives there are great! Couple that with a platform dive (oil platform, that is) on the way in or out, and the trip can be magnificent! Now, if the weather and waves will only cooperate, and you're all set. My next trip is in July, and I can hardly wait!
Good luck, team Walden, and have a great time. Be sure to post a trip report when you get back.

The Sea Searcher is for sale. Not running trips.

Your wife is crew... is she a boat divemaster or as a trip leader for the shop.

Have a great trip.

There is a three day field trip of scuba-diving following MACNA that I am planning to go on and I can't wait. A friend of mine of frequents there for research said I won't be disappointed.
Please come back and tell us about it.

Hang close to someone who knows their way around. Easy to get
too far from the mooring and end up taking a skiff ride back to the
boat (ride of shame). Great diving, but remember that's about all
you get to do on the boat.

Hope you have your bonine and scop patches ready!

Guba, you said you are a volunteer for the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary
Tell us more about this opportunity.

I am going to be on my way there the end of July. My first trip, Hope the weather gods are nice to you. Welcome to the forums

The Spree. I recently went to the crew party held by Gulf Diving (owners of the Fling & Spree) as my wife works as crew in the galley from time to time.
