I am thinking of moving to fort lauderdale, is there a lot of shore diving or mostly boat? In any case does any body know of a dive site that would have maps or what not?

There is a lot of diving here in the Ft. Lauderdale area, and the best shore diving in the state! The first reef line is only a hundred yards or so off shore, an easy surface swim....Also, there are a bunch of beach divers here on the board, so finding a buddy usually isn't too difficult.

There is also a lot of boat diving. Additionally, the keys are an hour and a half away, venice is 3 hours and the springs 3+.

Now, as far as maps of dive sites and all. For beach diving there is a book you can buy at most dive shops that gives very good descriptions of beach and snorkeling sites from Jupiter to Hollywood.

SOMEDAY our conchdivers site will be up (and yes, I am one of the lazy webmasters...) and we hope to include all kinds of dive info, including maps and such...

Let us know if and when you are arriving so we can dive!

What are you waiting for???? Thinking????? By the time you go through the thought process it will be to late?????? LOL

Yes, there is lots of shore and boat diving in this area. When you get down here just post a message and someone will contact you. As you can see by the above post all you need to do is get here.

Scuba_jenny said it all.

well thanks for the lure, it sounds great. It will be one hell of a scenic change. Right now am in nevada! of all places! have to tie a couple of ends together and hopefully some time this summer!

Moving from NV will be culture shock for sure, but I moved here from Southern California (through NYC) and adjusted quickly to the humidity. I have some advice for you.

My first expereince with the bugs & humidity - my biggest hurdle - was going to the Universty of Florida and then living in Atlanta in 1992-1995. I moved back to LA and swore I'd never come east again.

Fortunately, my career brought me to NYC and then here to Ft. Lauderdale. This time I live on the coast, where the water is always waiting to "dry you off" and it's arguably cooler. Most people moving here go inland right away... that will be a huge issue because you are used to that dry, wonderful NV air. Humid heat is very VERY different from dry heat. You may really hate it here - and the bugs as well - if you live inland.

I could move inland now that I've acclimated, but now that I'm a beach person I'm settled. I turned down a lot of money to move back West because I love it so - especially Scubaboard. You might say I am staying here, making less money, just because of Scubaboard & the great friends I've made here.
