Bluewater Adventure Series symposium – DECEMBER 3
Ft. Lauderdale Main Public Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale FL 33301.

The Ft. Lauderdale Public Library's Center for the Book and AUE will be holding a Bluewater Adventure Series symposium on December 3, 2005, at the Ft. Lauderdale Public Library (Main Branch). The symposium will focus on a theme of underwater exploration, in conjunction with an exclusive exhibit on Jules Verne and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." The Bluewater Adventure Series symposium is free and open to the public.

Tentative List of Presenters and Presentations:

Tane Casserley, Maritime Archaeologist with NOAA's Maritime Heritage Program, will be presenting on the QUEEN OF NASSAU and NOAA's Maritime Heritage Program. Tane recently completed his excellent Master's thesis on the wreck, and will be discussing this fascinating and very significant Florida shipwreck.

Greg Stemm (or representative) from Odyssey Marine Exploration will be giving a presentation on the SS REPUBLIC, including its discovery, identification, and salvage of millions of dollars worth of gold and silver coins, as well as numerous other fascinating artifacts.

Forrest Young, President of Dynasty Marine, will offer a fascinating talk on his recent expedition to Indonesia in search of the coelacanth, a species of fish that had long been thought to be extinct. Forrest and his team utilized closed-circuit rebreathers to explore the area at depths up to 500 feet.

Headliners Richie Kohler and John Chatterton, co-hosts of The History Channel’s “Deep Sea Detectives,” will provide an entertaining presentation on the NY Times best-seller "Shadow Divers.”

Aside from the speakers and Jules Verne exhibit, there will be other displays (e.g., ROVs and other underwater exploration tools) at the library.
