📍 UPDATE 11:30 am: An adult male diving for lobster near the Boca Chica Bridge in the Lower Keys was reportedly struck by a boat propeller and flown to a Miami hospital via Trauma Star at 8:09 a.m. Wednesday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

“The man was brought ashore at the Key Haven Boat Ramp and Trauma Star landed on the Shark Key Bridge — temporarily blocking U.S. 1 traffic at the Shark Key Bridge,” MCSO said.

The man’s condition was not immediately known at the time of this press release.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the investigating agency.

‼️ BREAKING NEWS: Man airlifted with life-threatening injuries in the waters off Big Coppitt Key

Monroe County’s Trauma Star team airlifted a man Wednesday morning after he was apparently struck by a boat off the Lower Keys and suffered life-threatening injuries in a “diver-related accident,” Monroe County spokeswoman Kristen Livengood told Keys Weekly.

“The patient was brought to the Key Haven boat ramp and appeared to [have been] struck by a boat,” Livengood said.

“Trauma Star took him to the Miami Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries,” she said. “His current condition is unknown.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating the incident but couldn’t immediately comment on Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman said.

MCSO spokesman Adam Linhardt said he could confirm that at 8:09 a.m. Wednesday an adult male was airlifted after a medical emergency involving some type of boat crash in the Lower Keys.

This is a developing story.
