Hi everybody,

I have been diving with an Oceanic Versa Pro computer. Last week, while on a trip, the battery compartment flooded.(My fault, I guess, as I had just changed the battery.)

The question: in my older computers, if the battery compartment flooded, the instructions said:dry it, fix it, and use it .
The Instructions with the VP said take it to the dealer.
I cleaned it,and when I got home, put in a new battery, and took it to the dealer.
The dealer looked it over, turned it on, tried to set a few things (they worked) and said "it's ready to go-you just need to try it on a dive".
My questions:
1) has anybody had experience with this situation, and what are the chances of the computer functioning at depth?[The computer "works" fine dry, and in a bucket of water-no leaks]

2) Any tips on changing the battery on a Versa Pro,so that the chances of a leak can be minimized?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

In essence, you did take it to the dealer, who said all is well.

I've not opened a VP, but newer type of higher costs computer usually have isolated water-tight battery compartments so if you flood it, the electronics of the computer are spared.

If it leaked after a battery change you can do 3 things, typical of a battery change:

Change the o-ring

insure the case is not cracked

take it to the dealer to pressure test the computer to its rated depth

The final test can be avoided ... if you dive you computer 60' or so, it should be fine down to its rated depth.
