I am moving from Cadillac to Flint for college and I am wondering if there are any good dives anywhere local around there and if anyone is looking for a dive partner around the Flint area. Also does anyone know of the closest PADI DS around Flint. I only know of a dive shop that deals in SSI.

There is no diving in the Flint area. I live in this area and there is nothing. There used to be a local lake called Fenton that we used to dive. but it has been completly developed with condos and houses so there is no access anymore. The closest non charter boat diving is Portage. White Star and Gilboa. Or driving to port Sanilac for charter boat diving. As far as Dive shops there is only one in the Flint area and yes it is the only one and they are SSI. Other wise it is Midland or Ann Arbor for other dive shops. There are a couple of us on this board from this area and some from a little further south. the best thing you can do is post when and where you want to go diving and usually you can get a buddy that way or go to the fall meet and greet and meet some of the people there to find buddies for future diving. go to the post about the fall meet and greet to find out more.

Not that it really matters, but they happen to be affiliated with SSI. GTXL1200 has given you accurate information. Your best bet would be to post here for dive buddies and/or meet them at Meet and Greet :) .

You got a free plug you should have let him drive up there then say oh sorry we are only SSI you might have sold something to him hehehehehehehehe Just kidding Brian. Maybe we can talk him into converting to SSI that way he can deal with Flint and you Brian.

One of these times, I will have to set up another charter with Rec and Tec out of Port Sanilac for those who want to go. There are a lot of nice wrecks out of there and the Black Forest Brewery is a great place on the way home for dive debriefings.

All that I need is a good solid list for next spring and I will book it. I just don't want to be paying Gary half-down for a full boat charter and lose my behind because I can't get ten divers.

If divers want to start coming out of the woodwork here, I'll see what I can do.

I just moved from DC to Perry/Morrice area. Want to get into local diving but apparently slime to none. I'm on leave from duty in afghanistan until the 17th of September. When I return next summer I'll be ready to get wet. Although I'm taking back my C-Cards rumour has it diving while on pass in QATAR isn't bad at least it's warm water. NAUI, PADI, IANTD advanced Nitrox. Used to cold quarries and everything from Nags Head south on Atlantic coast. Dry Suit Diver also. When's the Get togethers?
