My wife and I are considering a trip to Bonaire in March for 7-9 days. It would be our first visit to the island. We've read so much about it and would love to see and dive it ourselves. The flights though are not the most agreeable. They all tend to be on the pricier side and are overnight.

We are coming from Detroit (DTW). The best I've found is on Orbitz.

DTW - Newark - BON 3/5/10 Depart 7:55 PM - Arrive 5:22 AM
BON - Newark - DTW 3/14/10 Depart 6:00 AM - Arrive 3:02PM
$776/Person

Does this seem the norm? Any suggestions? I would prefer to leave in the AM and get there some time that same day.

Thanks for your help!

yup that is it. one flight in same plane out. you can fly to Venezuela or Curacao and then in I think, but the direct choices are slim to one.:D

Check out Insel Airlines. I haven't yet gone into their website, but will be doing so in the near future, to book my own trip as well. And a hint I've been given is rather than leave the flight time blank, specify a flight, otherwise it will tell you that all flights are booked. Sounds like it's running just over $500, with taxes and fees, from Miami. That would be a direct flight, no overnights.

So from the U.S. there is only one flight in per day and that's the one out of Newark?

Insel has direct flights from Miami. Delta has direct from Atlanta and Continental has direct flights from Houston and Newark. As Sailnaked said you could try for Curacao then a 15 minute flight to Bonaire on either Insel, Divi Divi or DAE (Dutch Antilles Express).

Well, when I check on Insel through Miami, it flies to Newark for the same overnight flight or Houston for an overnight flight. Looks like there is a daily plane from Houston. But no flights from Miami.

Thanks for the Insel tip though.

 Huh, I just checked out their site. Found my flights, and the price for two to travel is just under $1000, direct from Miami. Too bad I don't have the funds to book my tickets just yet. :depressed:

no, there is a houston flight and I think a miami flight that are non-stop there may be others but most of the major airlines use one of these to get there. I am not an expert, when we did our research to go last August we only had a choice of one flight a week.
