Fair warning. This might be a dumb question. You've been warned!

im planning a trip in October. Looking at flights the prices are nuts. Travel in September is <$600 round trip. October is >$1600!!

Do I just need to wait a few weeks for the pricing "window" to drop the prices, or is October just a really expensive month to fly to Bonaire? Last trip I got my ticket a month before leaving and paid $800.

Thoughts?

Unless I'm way off in the way I'm figuring it, you can leave from Charlotte and take Insel-Air the whole way... I just put in Oct 11-18 and got $599 and up round trip. For a little more money you can travel at more civilized times.

Just a thought...

Not sure why the fares are so high. I would keep looking and wait and travel when the fares are more reasonable. If you have to take the trip in Oct take a look at flying insel from Charlotte. $700 r/t with one stop. Check out online reviews of the insel flight before booking.

I didn't look at Insel. Oops!!

insel was a PITA to travel on last year.

Not sure what your problem was with them that was a PITA.

I've only flown with them once (earlier this year) and then was a puddle jump from Curacao to Bonaire and other than the requirement to check in at least 2 hours early for checked bags, it was painless.

I have been looking at airfare for an upcoming trip to Bonaire and it seems like it was way up and then it dropped back down to normal, I am not sure if it has to do with middle eastern news and/or gas/diesel prices. Hopefully this cycle will repeat and it will be reasonable again. I always hear if you like the price, book it in terms of Bonaire flights and that has held true for our first two trips there.

I had trouble with Insel, too, and frankly for us it just comes down to time and money and hassle in Curacao and losing diving time, etc (We pretty much have to have at lease one night in Curacao if not two). If I could only do it that way I probably would, but for the money differences we see its not worth it to us coming from Denver as that makes at least two connections to deal with. If I lived in NC or Florida it would be a whole other situation...

You're going again??? You just got back! You just can't get enough of that place...

I just got back From a trip to Bonaire in May. Honestly I didn't get enough hours underwater last trip and this trip sounds like if I plan it right I can get 30 hours minimum under water. Since I already have my 2014 Bonaire tag, that saves time. Hopefully I can get off the plane and into the water :)

It seems like flights to Bonaire are all over the map. In the past I have signed up for trip alerts through Kayak.com. A friend of mine who used to work in the travel industry said that typically Tues. and Sat. mornings is when the fares drop. I have had the luck on Saturdays.

Here's a Delta itinerary for $685, including taxes. Itinerary is RDU-ATL-BON, with 2 hour and 20 minute layovers in ATL going both ways. I just verified that the same fare is currently available on Delta's website.
