I've seen lots of threads on the bus/ferry trip but not much mention of the short flight. I am flying into Cancun (since it is direct and cheaper) and while I would normally just do a bus/ferry combo, I am traveling with a three year old and pregnant wife - so would like to minimize the hassle if it is reasonable.

Anyone use that flight, it seems to cost only $60 each way and flies every two hours, which is obviously more than the bus ferry but if it is a reliable flight it should be much shorter, right?

How much time should I give to transfer in the cancun airport (for customs, luggage which should be minimal etc.)?

I don't know, but I was going to check it out when I get to Cancun October 28th. My thought was to buy the ticket when I get there when I know what time will work.

We did this from Belize City over to Ambrigis Caye and it seemed to work best.

The flights are operated by Maya Air (www.mayair.com.mx). I would imagine that the flights leave from another terminal (where the private planes take off and land), but dont quote me on that.. Seems to be a good option if you don't want to spend the extra time it'll take to get from Cancun to Playa and then to Cozumel. If you guys are spending some time in cancun as well, and want to do some diving (ocean or Cenotes), drop me a line.

We did it one time years ago. It seems like at that time it was not a local like mentioned (Maya Air) now, but rather I think we flew Mexicana or something. I could be wrong it was a long time ago. If you are flying into Cancun anyway, I would definitely check out booking the local flight to Cozumel. If you can avoid the Cancun airport altogether, I would do that, it's pretty hectic and the confusion outside can be pretty nerve wracking. We always fly directly into Cozumel now, it's worth the extra money. If you do fly into Cancun you can either take a cab to Playa Del Carma (agout 30 miles I think) or a bus. If you take a cab be very certain before you get in exactly what your total charge will be, the cab drivers may try to charge you a whole lot more than they quoted when you actually get there. The ferry ride over to Cozumel is actually pretty fun.

I just took the flight on Mayair from Cozumel to Cancun about a month ago. Yes, it does arrive at the General Aviation Terminal. They shuttled me over to the International terminal, but I'm not sure how it works the other direction. They don't have an official check-in counter; one of their employees shows up about 30-45 mins before the flight to check you in. The plane is VERY small (it is a 6 seater, 5 seater with luggage). I believe they fly a Cessna 210. I had two bags and they didn't have a problem with that. I paid $60 one-way.

Hope that helps!

I booked cancun-cozumel flights through aero-mexico website, as I wanted to make sure I had seats and I thought aero-mexico was a recognized enough airline that I would do a online credit card purchase. Not tried it before- i hope everything goes well with it !! Can let you know in December when I get back .....

I agree with rajohn.....flew into cancun one time, caught flite to Coz...crazy airport. Way way way better to fly direct...check out continental, frontier air

Unfortunately, there was no way to do this on the start date of my trip. The only flights to Cozumel would have involved an overnight in Dallas, Houston or Miami. There may have been a red eye through Atlanta, but that seems way out of the way from Denver.

Last year we did the Bus/Ferry deal, but there was a two hour layover in Playa. So that is why we are looking to try this as an alternative. Worst case, we take the bus and get in when we do.

We flew in by way of Cancun in 2000 and it wasn't that bad. There was a lot of constuction at the airport, but I don't recall having to change terminals. We booked our flights all at the same time and the small plane to Coz was either Mexicana or Aero Mexico. The thing I remember most about it was the chickens in the cage that they put up front with all the luggage. :)

P.S. The view flying into the island on the small plane was really cool! :D

The web site says 60$us, I just tried to book two tickets the total comes out to 135$us. Anyone know why. I cant seem to figure that out.
I took the flight from Coz a few times I like the flight.
