Just Got back from Dumaguete and Apo Island.

Had a chance to use my new INON UFL-M150 Micro Fisheye for the first time

Initial impressions of shooting with the micro fisheye? Seems that proper lighting would be tough.

Tightlines,

You are right about lighting being more challenging. I only have a single S2000 and the outer edges can often be seen when I am shooting slightly down as in the juvenile lionfish shot.

The lens does lend a different perspective that is unique and right between the UFL165AD and the UCL165AD.

Close focus wide angle is easier to get than with a full-on wide angle fish-eye. Magnifies the foreground and opens up for the background. The clowfish/anemone shot and the paired nudis are about 8 inches wide and about six inches from the front of the lens.

It seems ideal for orange to melon size subjects to be used a subject shot in front of negative space. As in the clownfish and paired nudis shots.

I was caught with options paralysis as I brought this lens together with a UFL165Ad and 2x UCL165AD Macro lenses : )

Spent a lot of time switching lenses and missed taking my time to compose, focus and position lighting. I think I would do better next time by bring just one lens on a dive. : )

Great pics! Is most of 'em from Dauin? 3 OGP's in one shot, a "filamented" Juve OGP and the lovely pair of RGP's just screams Dauin. Is there a problem with setting the power on the S2000 when doing Micro fisheye shots? Seems like you used lots of different shutter/aperture/ISO settings for those.

Cool pics. I was curious as to what perspective this lens would actually show. Think my favorite is the clown fish. But I actually like the lighting on the juvenile lionfish. I think if the background had been illuminated you would have lost the great contrast.

Did you find an optimal zoom for the barrel distortion or was it always a problem?

The Barrel Distortion seemed to always be there. More obvious when there was back scatter around the corners. Zoom is at 85mm for widest FOV.

This was my first time with the lens underwater. Was trying to figure out what type shots this lens is best suited for so i was shooting all kinds of angle and random shots.

Yes, most of the shots ar Dauin and the clown fish was at Apo Island, also near Dumaguete. The viz could definitely could have been better, I don't know how much that affected the background that we see here.

It is harder to set exposure for the micro fisheye than the IFL-165AD or the UCL-165ADs I think because the subject distance is like about 6 - 10 inches then have to expose for the negative space. The lionfish shot would have been better if I got a more upward angle on it but it was also dusk so the background was really dark to begin with.

Am disappointed with the distortion in the corners but then it is a fisheye. I defiinitely need more time to familiarize myself with the lens. I am excited by the new perspective it can add to the set of lenses I already have.

Thanks for the pics. Really good to see some test shots as I was interested in buying this lens for my girlfriend. I think with a price tag of $300+, the distortion in the corners is unacceptable. Too bad, because I had high hopes for the creative possibilities (ie Nudi with a sunball etc.) I shoot with a DSLR but was interested in seeing what this lens could do on the s95. Two strobes on either side of the housing positioned outwards would greatly reduce backscatter and produce even lighting on the subject but if the edge sharpness is so bad that it takes up 1/3 of the photo I hardly see the point of this lens. Thanks again!
