Lol, I looked here for Best Price Cameras and on a scale of 0 to 10, they rated a 0.29. This was based on 337 ratings. Virtually every review contains the word "nightmare". Then again I stated that I had a good experience from Tri-State (which I did), and they didn't fare all that well either (much better than Best Price though), although people are much more likely to post a rating if they have had a bad experience.

Bfisher, its not my intent to discourage you from finding a good price, only to avoid inscrupulous retailers. I just want to you to be happy with your purchase and post cool videos when you are all set up.

Hey, I'm not in the business of critisizing anybody's comments. I appreciate all the help forthcoming. I asked and I recieve. It is kind of funny that you mention it, but I was looking on BBB.com and even B&H and Adorama get some bad reviews. Go figure.

sjspeck, you're in one this too. I also appreciate the help you're posting. The more I look the worse it gets. I am still checking BBB reports on every site that pops up. What is amazing to me is that it seems most of the unscrupulous camera shops seem to be right in good ole New York. What is also a little amazing is that nobody seems to be doing much about their business practices. I think it is best price that operates under about half dozen or more names. I guess if they get too much flack they just paint a new sign over the door.

I think I'll end up checking with my CC company and then pick seller that is a little more than a dirt bag. I certainly do want to get what I pay for. Gray market doesn't bother me too much. US~warranty? The warranty is only 90days anyway. But I want what Sony ships in the box.

Holy crackers!!! It's 1:30am. I gotta git to bed. This computer is going to kill me.

I live in NYC. When it comes to buying expensive electronics, I only buy from stores that have a public retail showroom. I've been to both B&H and Adorama many times as well as LeisurePro for scuba equipment.

I'd be careful with online only retailers. Especially when they list prices that look too good to be true.

It appears that a legitimate price for that camera is about $995. At least that's the price from a dealer I've heard of...

fwiw, I've bought camcorders and other ridiculously expensive electronics in the past from B&H (multiple times at work) and recently bought my HC1 from Beach Camera - they had the best price at the time by far. No problems with either of them.

I have no doubt that B&H has complaints against them also, since they're only the largest photo/video dealer in the world..

Yes, according to the BBB B&H passes muster. No doubt they are going to have some issues. The more they sell there are bound to be some problems. It's how they handle them that makes the difference.

I just got off the phone paying for my housing with Reef Photo a couple hours ago and it went very smoothly. No hard sell and no excuses. Ryan was very professional. Now we'll see how they handle the meails for tracking numbers and how the delivery goes. I feel fairly confident all will go well.

Well, so far Reef Photo is coming through. I got emails about the order processing shipping. Then got one with the tracking number and invoice info---invoice didn't pop up.

Checked tracking and UPS says the housing in in Maryland, about 100 miles from my house. Florida to MD overnight. Looks like I should get it today oir tomorrow. I'll keep ya posted.

Now if I get the right merchandise!!!!!!!

Beware of bestcameraprices.com!!!

One of my friends was thinking of buying a pro-sumer video camera from bestcameraprices. I work with video in a professional capacity so with that knowledge I decided to help out my friend with his purchasing. I called bestripoff and found out the truth behind them. They are a scam 100% scam. The price that you saw is most likely for the camera housing(not u/w housing) basically the enclosure or shell for the camera excluding the electronics. I asked them for the real name of the business so I could call Panasonic and Canon to see if they are an authorized reseller, they refused to tell me. It turns out that they have over 40 names that the company deals under. What company won't tell you the name of the business they are operating underneath? They are dishonest criminals! 100% criminals. Luckily I was able to help my uneducated friend before he purchased a camera, minus the guts. I can't stress more how much of a scam this company is. Buy from B&H, they're reputable and trustworthy. I've bought lots of gear from them. Lighting, audio, video, lenses, cases, U/W still housings, strobes and my new U/W video housing. I think that this post, or one like it, should be a sticky so no one else gets scammed.

OK, my housing sat in Md. over the weekend. Got here today. Reef Photo came through. I got what I ordered and within the time they said. Only complaint I might say is that my invoice does not have a date or price paid information on it.

So whatI guess I'm saying is that ReefPhoto Video can be counted on for interent purchases.

Now I gotta git that camcorder.

On the subject of video/photo online dealers - I purchase tens of thousands in video/photography equip annually. I have a media production company, and I can tell you that every professional videographer & photographer I know (including me) goes through B&H or Adorama. IMHO, the only way you'll find better prices is risking used on ebay.
