Hi all!

Next week hubby and I are going to Key Largo to (with any luck!) do our open water certication dives. We're staying and diving with Kelly's on the Bay/Aquanuts. I'm very excited and a bit nervous for our first real 'dunk' in salt water! Well, we did a resort course dive in the USVI a couple of years ago, but didn't have to do any skills or anything... they geared us up and led us around... we were blissfully naive and I really don't even count that as a dive. But I digress...

I know this is a bit off the scuba topic, but since we haven't been to Key Largo before, I would love any tips for places to eat. I don't know squat about what's on the island! We'll have a rental car so we can get around. We like casual places... burgers and beer, fresh seafood, but nothing fancy... just good atmosphere and good food. I really appreciate any advice you're willing to give! Thanks! And wish me luck!!!

best in town by a longshot. Hobos is decent for burgers and such. Mrs. Mac's kitchen is good too. Ganims for breakfast.

Mrs. Macs superfishwhich sandwhich is the best fried fish sandwhich in the world. I want one now!

Hobos rocks too.

Ok, now I am getting hungry.

Was just there on vacation - agree with the Fish House recommendation - absolutely fantastic food and a great keys atmosphere - nice and casual too!

KBeck once bubbled...
There's a great "hole in the wall" place just next door to the Marriott called Senor Frijoles, if I remember correctly. (Anyone else know, in case I'm incorrect?) Enjoy and have a great time....!! You'll do fine!

Yea, you are correct. It has a great view of the bay, highly recommended for sunsets.

The food is plentiful and good. Unfortunately, the monstrous building the Marriott has been erecting for the last few years has blotted out most of the sunset view.

Hobos makes a really yummy dolphin sandwich and they're right next door to Kellys.

My favorite place to eat in Key Largo is an inexpensive little hole in the wall on the north bound side of the highway a few miles north of Kelly's. I can't remember the name of it. It has little picnic tables out front. They serve a curried banana and rice dish that's out of this world.

I wish I could remember the name of the cuban restaurant where I had breakfast on my last trip. It's on the southbound side of the highway just north of the hungry pelican motel. The breakfasts were great.

check out the Buzzard's Roost at Garden Cove Marina... a block behind Captain Slate's Atlantis Dive Center "A" frame on U.S. 1, at mile marker 106.5 oceanside.

The place that was recommended to Rax sounds like the Bayside Grill... behind Cafe Largo, just south of the traffic light at mile marker 99.5 bayside... awesome sunset/bay views... good food.

I think Raviepoo is describing the Cracked Conch. Enjoy!
