Hello All,
My girlfriend and I just got back from our first visit to Anthony's Key Resort and we had a fantastic time. We had been to Buddy Dive on Bonaire twice before and found the accomodations to be a little more rustic, but comforatble. We started off in a "hill standard" room, but moved to a "key standard" and were glad that we did. The lack of air conditioning in the room wasn't a big deal, as the breeze kept things cool enough. We would definitely recommend bringing a mosquito net, however.
The diving was great. In the week that we were there, there were several sightings of whale sharks and manta rays, and we had a run-in with a pod of spotted dolphins at Mary's Place. The boats were great, and we had the same boat/crew/fellow divers for the whole week. We never had more than 10 on the boat, and we often had as few as 5 of us. I won't open the can of worms of comparing Roatan to Bonaire, but we really enjoyed the variety that Roatan had to offer. We did the shark dive, which was kind of cheesy, but still enjoyable.
The food was excellent. There was a good variety of choices at any given meal and over the course of the whole week. The quality of the food is definitely better than I had expected. Highlights: Tres Leches Cake, Filet Mignon, Mahi Mahi.
AKR makes everything easy and enjoyable, and we will definitely be going back again!
