First stage whistling

What makes you think the noise is coming from the 1st stage rather than the 2nd?

The sound clearly is coming from behind me. And to be sure I tried with my octopus which is not new and I know works, and the whistling sound continues.
 
Your 1st stage has a number of springs in it. As another poster has mentioned that flipping the spring helped in his reg ( I suspect a piston 1st stage). Does it happen during inhalation, exhalation, or all the time? As another poster enitoned, send it back to the dealer and SP should be able to help them figure out out.
