I am trying to post to scuba board without starting a new thread so i hope this is the correct method! My immediate question has to do with people's experience with negatively buoyant fins. i have used anke weights and found them to impede my swimming. i have heard of negatively buoyant fins but wonder if there is a downside ...so to speak.
thanks for any info.

You are close enough to the right place. Check out the equipment forums.

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Try posting your question in out our Fins, Masks & Snorkels forum. I think you'll get more answers there.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Howdy!

I just want to join the others in welcoming you to SB. Hope to get to know you around the forums. Love it when someone my age join, even if just barely.

It's gonna' be a little quite around here for the next week, as our Florida friends hunker down to hide from a big storm, :sofa: then get their electricty going again, and many other members enjoy the holiday weekend. I'm In Ontario to dive the St.L myself, but I brough my laptop with me.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving instructions. PM me if I can help you learn your way around.

Hi Nautilus Pompilius,

Welcome to the board.

I would recommend that you try to get rid of the ankle weights, especially if you are diving in the ocean but you will probably find that with experience you won't need them. As for neg bouyant fins, most fins I've come across are neg bouyant, the only down side I can see would be if you dropped them while you were removing them to get in the boat.

You don't say what type of fins you are using now or if they are open heel or full foot. Are you using your own equipment or is it rental? Make sure your weights on the belt are even distributed and are not rolling around onto your side during the dive, if they happen to slide around to your side it will throw off your bouyancy and you will most likely notice something's not right but might try to compensate for it in other ways. If you are not use to the equipment that could be another problem, with only 11 dives you most likely don't have it all figured out quite yet but don't worry you will get it eventually. Practise makes perfect.

I'm sure others on the board will also have tips and suggestions for you, good luck!
