Well I've taken my new rig for its first swim last weekend. For those in Melbourne, the dives were the J4 (27m) sub followed by Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron. I first took it for an empty get-wet-test under Sorrento pier in about 4m of water. I looked in through the port, and saw a head of bubbles. Scared me a bit at first until I realised it was the reflection of my exhaled air!
Anyhow, this is the rig:
It took me a little used to the flash, and I still haven't quite got it. A lot of my pics were way underexposed, especially on and in the sub at 25m with very little ambient light.
If I turned on TTL (not supported by the camera hotshoe adapter) the flash did a full dump, and the whole pic was blown out. Turn the strobe to Manual or Full power, it was under exposed. I'm sure I was doing something wrong, so I think I just need to experiment a bit more above ground.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the results, considering it was my first time out with it, but I will be disappointed if I don't improve over the next few dives.
I would love any feedback from these sample pics, and some of the others in my gallery
Thanks for looking.
Mark.
