Hey...

I don't know much about the dive site you're gonna explore, but I'm sure it can't be a very difficult one since it's your first.
My first dive. Well, yeah. I was nervous. But it was also a great experience. Just don't panic. And I'm sure there isn't even a reason to. It's like the ones you made indoors, only there's more to see. :P
Just enjoy it! Even though that's gonna be hard. Lots of thought running through your mind, but pretty soon you will be very relaxed. You're gonna be fine! And good luck!

It's normal to be a little nervous, but the best advice is just to relax and have fun. Remember your training, but your instructor will be with you. Write back about your experience when you are done!

There'd probably be something wrong with you if you weren't nervous, but try to keep in mind that you're doing this to have fun, and everyone who's going with you is either feeling the same way, or has been there before. Nobody's against you succeeding on these first dives. They're all on your side. Relax, be smart, be safe, have fun. 8)

You'll be fine , Stoney is great , the top level where you will be has some cool stuff to look at. Vis should be good midweek and cold as it is. 6 degs on Saturday last, are you diving dry ?

As for nerves I did my first in the Ocean, step off this nice solid boat they said ! You must be kidding I said !

But boy am i glad I did.

I never looked back, now I have no money but a whole load of really good friends, and I'm still in touch with my Instructor over in the States, years later.

It's a great world above and below the surface.

Relax, listen to your Instructor (they dont want to lose you either it's embarrasing for them  ) and just chill out and enjoy it.

As was said before, it's only a big pool isn't it after all. But one with fish !

BTW, there are quite a lot about at the top level at the moment.

Enjoy !

Don't worry. I have never been diving in the UK but when I did my first dive was in a local rock quarry. I was so scared! After I got under everything calmed down a little. I was more suprised at all the fish that were so close to me. As far as my first ocean dive, well lets just say this, when we pulled up to the first dive site the Dive master says "Look, we got a fin!" My jaw dropped. It was a 4 ft reef shark, but luckily for me he wanted nothing to do with us!
Just remeber to have fun with it overall and go with people you trust. That can really make all the difference and help you relax.

Good luck

First of all, no reason to worry. Stoney is a very nice quarry and you'll have a blast. There is an area with a rock bottom of 5-8 m or so, which is not much more than the pool you did your training in. No current -- and an occational pike stopping by. You'll have fun, that's for sure. Trust your training, and do only things you feel comfortable with. If you're not feeling good about something, tell your instructor or DM, and I am sure they'll help you out. Which school are you training with?

Nothing dramatic will happen -- what you will do in Stoney will be exercises you've already done in the pool, and you will do fine. After all, your instructor has seen you in the pool, and think that you're ready for open waters. After the exercises, you'll do a tour -- possibly looking at some of the artifacts (IIRC, there's a mock-up helicopter in the shallow part of Stoney), and have a blast. Concentrate on having fun, keep an eye on your air, and you'll do just fine.

Also to reassure you, at Stoney there's excellent staff on site, including rescuers and any and all security precautions you can envision for diving accidents. Not that you will need any of them, but it's a really well equipped site. There's a shop selling bits and pieces of diving gear, shower/toilets etc too.

What you probably will need, though, is the on-site pub. After a day of OW dives, get a pint of whatever you drink, and enjoy your fish'n'chips while looking over the waters you've just been part of. Ahh, I have to get back to Stoney -- it's been 10 months since I was there the last time ;(

It's good you're a little nervous -- convert it to being attentive and focused on doing things right: setting up right, being alert and responsible. Everybody are nervous on their first OW dives -- not everybody will admitt to it, though ;)

Trust me, it'll be a blast. I'm looking forward to hearing your post-dive report (and to welcomming you to the ranks of certified divers). And who knows, perhaps one day end up diving with you?

Nerves are good. Means you understand what's happening. I'm a poor one to suggest this (because I didn't sleep at all the night before) but try to relax. When I took my OW cert dives, we went freshwater the first day (3 dives) and sea water the second (2 dives). The second day went a lot better mainly because I was rested. You're going to love this!
