Hello,

Going on my first lobster dive with Cape Ann Divers on Saturday.
Providing the thunder is not clapping.

I have my license, numbers on my flag and tank, a bag, and a stick, and gauge. Do I need anything else? Cooler should I catch anything? Can that be brought on the boat? Rubber bands for the claws? Or is there something else to use for that?

Thanks
Nick

Yeah, some good luck. I've had no luck diving from the shore recently...just eggers and shorts. But, I'm still optomistic about tomorrow! The boat captain should know where the lobstah are hiding. Good luck and happy hunting!

Yup, bring a small cooler on the boat. The Captian (Steve or Dave) with band (and remeasure) any keepers you get.

Have fun!

Besides being great fun, I did end up going home with two lobster. I did measure about 20 others though. They all looked like big ones before I caught them, but turned out small or had eggs after I caught them. In between dives the ship mate said if they do not look like monsters then they are prob too small. First rock down, next dive I wrestled out a huge, huge, huge looking lobster. It was too big. That sucked. It was huge though.

Being my first lobster dive, I learned a lot though, including that even the small ones pinch hard, and it hurts, ooh.

Now how do I cook a lobster?????????????

Thanks
Nick

Remove the rubber bands prior to cooking them. If you think about it, the bands don't "add" any flavor. I certainly don't make a point of tossing in a handful of rubber bands when I'm cooking other shellfish:D Boiled rubber. Yummy;)

On Friday, my brother and I never made it into the water. Went to several sites on the South Shore(Gun Rock and Brant Rock included), but the wind was blowing and the waves and surf were nasty...too nasty. Oh well, my rash of bad luck continues.

Any suggestions for alternate dive sites on the So. Shore when the wind is blowing like that? Fresh water? Cove somewhere? Thanks.

Have you had luck lobstering there? We were out yesterday (Sat Sept 27), first day there, and I suppose we were in the wrong spot because we did not see much action at all. We just sort of went straight out. There was a bit of swell and some chop from the breeze as well, all adding up to a rather mediocre dive.

That's sounds like the conditions we had on Friday. I haven't dove at Brant Rock in many years -- just getting back into an active dive schedule after just diving the caribbean 1X every year. My brother has gone there and says if you're looking out to sea, the better area on to the left at the far end of the seawall. We're going to try either there or Gun Rock again this year(hopefully). That site might be a bit picked over at this time of year. I'm sure the conditions ddin't help. Happy hunting.
