Hi All. I will be traveling with my husband to Australia and New Zealand for about 3 weeks starting the end of November. I have always shied away from liveaboards because I tend toward seasickness and am not as avid a diver as my hubby. Accepting the advice from previous posts re diving as north as possible, can anyone tell me what the experience is like somewhere off of Cairns. How bumpy a ride (will my twice daily bonine hold me)? How warm is the water (I like Carribean temps even with a full wet suit)? Is it worth the extra day or two to dive further north if I'm unsure of the whole experience? Is a catamaran style more stable then a stabilized single hull? I will take regs and mask, but I have never dove without my own gear since i was certified -- is it worth lugging everything all over both countries?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Had much the same concerns my first liveaboard.

Was going to OZ for an extended vacation, hadn't been diving seriously for years, and I get seasick.

Was there all of November 2005.

Did two one day trips out to the reef early November, then signed up for a three day liveaboard. Best thing I ever did, wish I had done a longer trip!!

Weather was perfect, was told that it was pretty much the best time re wind and water conditions. First day was a bit iffy re seasickness, but with drugs you should be OK - normally don't use them so find ways to cope.

Used rentals - Mike Ball - gear was in good shape no issues at all. Would take regs if you own them - rent the rest too much to carry around if you are doing a lot of travelling.
