Yep, I was Mpscubatoytech's dive buddy on that day, and can vouch for the 8-inch vis. We lost each other within 6 feet the first dive...on the second, we had to hold on to each other to stick together.
By some miracle of navigation (actually I *literally* ran into a traffic cone under there to which a line was attached), we did manage to locate the "obstacle course" and eventually the boat.
I'd have to suggest that the visibility problems were most likely from the torrential snowfall, and rain that occured the preceeding two days...since the gravel ponds are fed by a wetland, of *course* a lot of sediment comes in with it. He and I have seen vis up to 30 feet there in the past, so it's not always a horror story.
I *will* say it was an absolutely *gorgeous* morning out there. The fresh snow in the foothills, combined with a low fog layer, and water that looked like glass made for a beautiful scene. A few photos and descriptions below...
This is the scene we drove up to...what a BEAUTIFUL morning!
Here is Mpscubatoytech, with the foothills near Chatfield, covered in snow.
....this is what happens when we overinflate our dry suit to stay warm between dives. FYI - This is *me*.
BTW Ron - LOVE the Goliath Grouper on the floor for your avatar. Cool!
