My wife and I had our first confined water dive. It was the two of us and an instructor. My first couple breaths underwater was weird but after a few attempts it wasn't a problem. The biggest problem I had at the beginning was I was taking more air in then letting out so I became more bouyant but I am working on that. By the end of 4 hours in the pool I was doing much better. We are looking forward to our OW dive next week and then our AOW. We have a trip booked to Florida in Feb. and Grand Cayman in March. I will keep you updated..

Welcome to breathing underwater!

You'll find, as you learn, that that ability to control how buoyant you are simply by changing your breathing is the key to fine-tuning your diving (but in the beginning, when you're not very aware of your breathing pattern, it can be very frustrating :) ).

Welcome to SB,

I think when many learn the fin pivot in the pool most don't really appreciate how important of a skill that is. It is amazing how much you can increase buoyancy with a deep inhale. By keeping your breathing moderate and consistent neutral buoyancy while properly weighted should be achieved. It does take a bit of practice for many of us.

Good luck & good diving,

Arizona
