My GF recently passed her OW and I have my AOW. We both want to take Nitrox as well as Drysuit training. She usually rents her BC, where I have an old Seaquest back inflate that have had for about 10 years.

I would like to get her and also myself new BCs and have been looking into a BP/W setup. Not really interested in top of the line (Apex, Halcyon) as we are mostly vacation divers, but not the cheapest either. I am leaning towards the Hogarthian style, we don't need all the d-rings/shoulder pads on the deluxe editions of the brands I have seen. Most likely with 23-32lb wings since are single tank divers at the moment.

Anyway, looking for recommendations. My gut is leaning me towards the Hog Hogarthian BP/W for us both.

Thanks!

Have a look at x-deep, they make good BCD's for modest prices

Thank you. That was also on my list. Any reason you would choose x-deep over the Hog?

I personally don't know the Hog therefore cannot recommend, i have tried my friend's x-deep before and it felt like a solid piece of kit.

You state a desire to get drysuit certified at some point. If so, and if you end up diving in cold water, you will probably want to consider getting a rig and wing that will be versatile and work in all conditions. Here is my review from a couple of years ago of the XDeep Ghost. I went with the Deluxe version for personal reasons, but you certainly don't have to. I still love it and wouldn't trade for anything else after more than 300 dives on it now. Review: XDeep Ghost BCD- BP/W

The Hog, X-Deep, DGX and Golem seem relatively similar. Any reason to go with one over the other?

the hog, golem, and xdeep have more lift so can accommodate heavier wetsuits and big steel tanks for cold water. or a drysuit flood.

Do you guys think the DGX with the SS plate would be good for cold water diving too? Just wondering if a 25lb wing would be enough. Not as worried about diving with the drysuit but more so with a 7mm/gloves/hood/etc.
