Fire department diver has an accident during rescue operation

A fire department diver is searching for a man who is presumed to have died in an accident - then he gets into trouble himself. Emergency services in Duisburg are shocked.

Misfortune - Fire department diver has an accident during rescue operation

At the scene of a suspected fatal boating accident in Duisburg, a fire department diver has been seriously injured. The diver reportedly got into difficulties at a depth of nine meters, according to a fire department spokesperson. He was brought to the water surface by his colleagues and required resuscitation. However, his condition stabilized according to an initial assessment by a paramedic.

For the missing man, whose rescue operation was taking place at the Wildförstersee at the Six-Lakes Plateau in Duisburg, the fire department unfortunately has no hope left. He is likely to only be recovered dead, the spokesperson added.

The missing man had been in a dinghy on the lake with several other people on Tuesday evening when an weather front passed over Duisburg. The other occupants managed to reach the shore, but there has been no trace of one man since then. Pastors were providing support to the family members who were observing the rescue efforts at the Wildförstersee.

Swimming is prohibited in the lake. There have been numerous fatal accidents there in the past, the city of Duisburg stated.

The rescue operation for the missing man in Duisburg, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, was led by the local fire department due to the dangerous conditions. Despite their best efforts, the fire department spokesperson regretfully confirmed no signs of life, indicating a misfortune. In a prior incident at the same lake, a duel between boating accidents and strict swimming prohibitions had led to tragic consequences.
