…and what a great class it was!

Forgive me if it sounds like I’m pimping my LDS a bit here, but I must say Sharky’s Eco Diving in La Verne puts on a great class!

I liked their emphasis on the practical aspects of “the skills you hope you never have to use”. They really did pay attention and made sure we understood WHY we were learning what we were learning (i.e. in a real dive emergency, in our waters, this is how you are REALLY going to be doing this) and HOW everything tied in together. From the DAN Oxygen course and the DAN Care for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries, to the PADI EFR and Rescue Diver course, they went through great lengths to connect the dots and I must say that it was very much appreciated. Using real world scenarios and playing the “I’m not going to tell you what’s wrong with me, you will have to use the skills you’ve learned to figure that out” game was not only fun but a HUGE boon to the educational process. The staff @ Sharky’s is extremely supportive and just plain fun to hang out with. The wife and I had a blast with the class! Now we’re looking forward to Advanced Oxygen and AED classes to complete our DES.

So, thank you to the staff at Sharky's; you guys are great!

And woo hoo! We finished rescue! :dork2:

Nice!
I did the PADI Rescue course back in November 2003, and this weekend, I found myself in a situation that made me glad I had done it.

I had to pull a diver out of the water- he couldn't inflate his BC and was in over his head, starting to thrash for air, and I was able to get behind him, calm him down, and begin towing him back to shore, walking him out.

It had been a long time since the class, but I'm glad I remembered what to do and felt in control of the situation.

Good job Shoupart, the entire reason I wanted to take rescue was in case of situations like you described!

To expand on what paradicio said about their patience (I’m his wife and was in the class with him this weekend)…

I am pretty small in stature (paradicio introduces me as his wife that is 2 foot 6 inches tall), and they were so supportive that I found myself doing things I never realized I could do! I actually managed to get someone out of the surf!

It was an excellent class, and really way too much fun! Thanks Sharky’s!

Congratulations Sean and Tina, now if I need rescuing, I know who to call!
I’ll second your recommendation of Sharkys. Terrific folks and a great little shop. My lovely bride wants to take rescue but I told it would have to wait until after our vacation.
Again, good job!
