I've got a buddy who's dove it. Vis ranges from 6 inches to a foot. Not that bad if you want to test gear out. He even found an old wallet with money in it.

I wasn't aware anybody really dove it for fun, or that it even advertised itself for that purpose. I may dive it myself just to see what it's like personally.

I was suprised to see this, but here are direct quotes from their website:

"For visitors looking for the more typical state park experience, the numerous finger-shaped lakes allow activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing and scuba diving. Nearly a dozen small, isolated lakes left by the mining company were joined together by a series of dams and canals. The result is a long, narrow strand of water that runs more than a mile and a half along the eastern edge of the park, perfect for canoeing and kayaking. A sand swimming beach and change house are located on one of the eastern finger lakes and fishing holes are scattered throughout the park."

Once the site of a coal strip-mining operation, the man-made landscape of Finger Lakes State Park has been transformed into a recreational area providing a variety of amusement options. The more than 70 miles of off-road motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle trails and motocross track attract people from around the country. A one-and-a-half mile-long corridor of water, ideal for canoeing, fishing, swimming and scuba diving, features a large sand swimming beach.

I ride ATVs there... they look way to muddy to be diving in. Next time I'm there I guess I'll have to take a closer look.

OK, I took a look, no dive though. I think they call it peace lake. Basically you drive like you're going to the campgrounds and pass the motocross turnoff, it's labeled, and as you get ready to go up the hill there's a spot on the right hand side of the road. Pull over and park. You'll see numerous large rocks at the edge, that water down below is where people dive.

Depth is I'm told now about 18 feet max, used to be in the 30's but they bulldozed the top of the quarry in so it's shallow now. Vis when I looked at it Sunday was awesome, as far as the eye could see above the water looking in. I could easily see the bottom everywhere. Wildlife? None, nothing lives there because it's way too alkaloid. Getting in be prepared to wade through mud that comes past your knee's before you get to the water, go so far and lie down and get in. Then clean the mud off and you can dive.

Temps are pretty warm due to it being so shallow, but I bet it's cooler now. Probably in the 70's would be a guess.

That's all I found out from talking to people who have dove it and from personal observation this weekend.

Doesn't sound like a very fun dive... but at least you get to get wet I guess.
