Fine tuning the adjustment of my HOG harness

Hi all,

At the moment I am fine tuning my harness. I've found that while rig was totally stable with doubles, when I turned to the side there was some shift. To combat this I have tightened the shoulder straps.

I have found that now the plate is sitting higher as a result. Now I know you should be able to reach the back of your plate but just wondering how high up your back is to high?

Thanks for that. I've had a good look at a number of those type of articles.

Would it be fair to say that if you tighten your shoulder straps you would need to also loosen your crotch strap otherwise it will pull the waist strap at to much of a downwards angle.

Yes, the crotch strap should just sit in place when it is properly adjusted -- it shouldn't pull the waist strap downward.
 
I too am tuning in my BP/W. Where exactly should the waist strap be positioned? Is it just above or on the belly button? Or somewhere else?
 
It just comes straight around your waist, parallel with the floor when your standing up. It shouldn't drop or rise up more than an inch or so. If it does significantly you may need a shorter (if it rises) or longer (if it drops in front) backplate.

Do not tighten the shoulder straps to the point where you get zero tank shift, you'll have a bear of a time getting the rig off. Esp. in the water.
 
A tight harness is unnecessary and uncomfortable. There shouldn't be a lot of slop,but there should be some movement as well.
 
I'm doing the same thing at the moment and find that the way the hog harness is set up right now, I still do have a ***** of a time getting out of it. I've loosened it up quite a bit after the initial threading of the webbing/back plate set-up. Should I loosen it up more? How tight/loose should it be? I've been trying it on w/ my drysuit and undergarment and at first it was so tight that I had to pull it over my head to get it off:11doh: ...I know doh! Maybe I should keep adjusting it until it definitely feels too loose and then back track...thoughts/suggestions?

You should be able to slip several fingers under the harness. At the bottom slots where the webbing is weaved through,are you using weight retainers from weight belts to keep the harness where you want it?
 
Okay, if that's the way the harness should be, I still have it a bit too tight. Yes, I am using those SS weight keepers to hold the webbing in at the bottom of the shoulder strap. Thanks for the input.
