Hi guys,

Myself and my girlfriend, both padi instructors, are thinking of moving to Indonesia and trying to find work, but before we go, i wonder does anyone have any info regarding the ability to work, I.E.: are there work permits? are these actually required? how do i go about getting one.

Other than that, if anyone has any advice whatsoever I'd be very grateful for whatever pearls of wisdom you may have.

thanks.

A work permit (KITAS) is required to work in Indonesia, you'll find info about the visa here Visa KITAS - VISA INDONESIA

Try to find work before you leave. Every year we used to have hundreds of hopeful dive professionals walk into our dive centre, looking for jobs, who would get turned away as we had enough 'in house' staff.

The place that always seems to be looking for staff is the Gili islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Gili Meno) or Thailand.

Also search KITAS in the search box above as this question is often asked.

Yes, you need a work permit and I believe Bali is about the only place you can get a job as a regular instructor in the country. There are a fair number of Western cruise directors / resort managers throughout Indonesia but most of the guides are Indonesians. And most of the Indonesian guides are pretty darn good at their job so there is little need for foreigners.
