I finally got to start an OW cert. Class yesterday. Class is by LDS using PADI. We swam about 200 yds. floated/tread water for 10 minutes, then put on the snorkle gear and snorkeled awhile. Later we found our body neutral weight. Was hard on 53 y/o who has not done much serious swimming in over 20 years. Is this the hard part and it gets easier or the easy part and it gets harder?

That was indeed the hard part. Now just do what you're told, relax, breathe, make slow and easy movements when performing the skills that are required, and relax and breathe.

Oh, and have fun, too!!

yup, have fun!

sounds like you are already, though

I just completed my OW cert this last weekend and what you did is the hardest part physically. Relax and enjoy the rest of your classes. You will wonder why you waited so long.

Yep, The hard parts over, just a little more instruction and your on your way to a great time. Take "the skulls" advise and have fun...

Been wanting to SCUBA since watching Sea Hunt w/ Loyd Bridges as a kid. Just never had the time or opertunity until now.

My inspiration was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I'd still like to get a wetsuit like they wore.
