Well have always wanted to get certified and have put it off for many years. Three years ago I retired from the US Army and decided to start living life, and start checking off items on my bucket list. Last year I looked into getting certified, but couldn't get dates to accomodate lessons. So this year for my 23rd anniversarry, my wife surprises me with open water certification for not only me, but her as well. May not sound like a big deal, but it was my dream and her nightmare to get certified and she was willing to be my buddy. Although she struggled with fear her first day, she made it through her tears and fears. Day two a whole different person showed up and with no issues, we were both certified. Now looking forward to doing some easy relaxing dives before she backs out. Nothing too difficult, so she can take her time easing into it without any pressure or too much fuss.

Good for you (and her), I'd keep her in the 30' depth range, even though 30' seems like a mile when you're under water tell her to look at a football field, it's only 10 yards on a football field. Most people I tell that to say, "wow, you're right, I could swim that far if I had to" which eases the fears a little. Good luck, my wife and I have been diving for over 20 years together, it's been a great hobby for us.
