We are snorkelers due to a medical condition. Last year we went to Bonaire and discovered (as you all have mentioned on this board) the need for open back fins and hard booties as opposed to our little reef shoes and full fins. We would have checked this out last time, but chose to do boat snorkels and dock entries instead (lots of rain & rough entries). We are headed there again and want to know - does any dive operation rent booties and/or open back fins? If so, what would the rough cost be for a week rental?

most places do not rent out boots/fins..too difficult to control due to loss inventory and expense is 3 to 4 times to put into inventory. I suggest buying your own.It is a minimal investment. If weight of fins is concern due to airline fees that is a problem.BUT I manage to get all my gear + clothes in a gear bag and it weighs less than 50 lbs.My camera and regulator, laptop is in a carry onbag.

I would think most do but in the long run you may find it less expensive to keep an eye on the local sales papers and find some used dive gear. With the exception of fin straps which are easily replaced, dive fins will last for decades.
As for renting them, your best option to make sure is to email the dive shop you intend to rent from.

Welcome to the board.

Used fins don't sell for squat on Ebay. You can get a decent pair for $10-20. Personally, I would go for one size larger than you think would fit you. Your next step will be to hit the local dive shops and find a pair of boots that fit both your feet and the fins. By the time you are done, figure $100 for fins and boots.
