I am new to diving and trying to find a fin that has a pocket that fits my foot. I wear xsmall to small in what I've tried on and some of the pockets have been too big in the back. Will be diving in warm waters only such as cozumel. So far the best fitting have been the aqualung express and tusa vesna. Anyone have any opinions on these fins or any other suggetions? Thanks

If you are interested in a closed foot pocket fin and one with a long blade that works well for scuba and freediving... check out our Los Ninos Fins. The footpockets are sized for women/children and the MAKO DIRECT price is very competitive.

Hi! Is there a reason you aren't considering open fins? (I wear a small with boots.) Super comfortable, can't beat the fit.....Great for getting to and from dive site if you're doing beach dives. Great for on the boat, too. :)

I have two sets of fins. One is an open heel fin and I only wear them when I go to Bonaire because I need to wear the bootie when shore diving. My other pair are these:

Mares Avanti Quattro Power Full Foot Long Blade Fins

These are the best fins I have ever owned and I have owned several pairs over the year. I take them on all my other trips. They are not as long as a freedive fin but longer than most traditional fins. They are not cheap as fins go but they have been worth every penny to me. Just have no idea if they make a size that would fit your foot.

Both the fins I mentioned are open heel fins..that's what I am looking to buy. With some I've tried on I had to wear a bulky hard soled boot to close the gap. With the vesna and aqualung I was able to get by with a 5mm zippered boot with a more flexible sole. Looking for info/ reviews on these two or suggestions on another similar fitting fin for recreational diving.
Thanks

I know the OP said he or she is looking for open heel fins, but I just wanted to say that I have Atomic Blades and Hollis F-1s and I got a set of the Mako freediving fins at Thanksgiving. I used them for a week in FL and just got back from a week in Hawaii. And the freediving fins are now my "go to" fins for any warm-ish to warm water diving (that does not include going inside a wreck).

They are awesome. The thrust for any kind of kick leaves my other fins (which are dang good fins!) in the dust (silt?). Even for "technical" kicks like frog kicks, helicopter turns, and back kicks, the freediving fins work better for me than either of my other sets of fins.

And being full foot means I don't have to wear any kind of shoe or boot, if I don't want to (though I have been wearing Lavacore socks).

The one sorta negative point to make is that they are so long they don't really fit very well at all in my big gear bag. For my flight to Hawaii, I disassembled them (meaning, removed the blade part from the foot pocket part) and then they fit in my gear bag just fine. For that reason, I would be very cautious about buying a set of the Mako fins that don't have replaceable blades. I'm not sure if these Los Ninos fins do or not. The ones I got are the "Competition Freediver" and they do, but the less expensive freedive fin they have (for adult men) do not have replaceable blades, I don't believe.

+1 on the Mares Avanti Quattros. LOVE them. They are quite stiff, but give excellent speed/thrust and are great for strong currents, surge and drift diving as well. When I was in Cozumel, I had an instructor hunt me down as soon as she saw what size I had. Apparently, she had been waiting for a customer to come along in the same size because she wanted to buy them off of me. I guess she said they're really expensive to buy out there. She asked a few other people and they all said no so she was thrilled when I agreed to it. She wanted to pay me whatever it was for me to get a new pair so I left my old pair with her. Recommended them to my DB/SO and he loves them as well.

Glad you like the fins!

Sounds like you don't have the right gear bag. :poke:

Freedive Gear Bag

Ha ha! :) I have a HUGE gear bag (Ogio 9900, which I don't think they even make anymore) that I use as checked luggage. Your bag might be long enough for these fins, but I don't think it would work as well for my purposes overall. And for when I am not flying somewhere, my Stahlsac backpack thing works fine with the fins just sticking out the stop. :)

I would suggest you try a pair of 3mm neoprene dive socks and see if that helps. Many people use them with full foot fins, not only for warmth, but for an improved fit.
