Hi, I am heading to Fiji this December and would like to spend a few days diving there. I am planning to spend 2-3 days in Beqa Lagoon for shark feeding and then the rest of the time diving in either Rakiraki, Taveuni or Ovalau. I am more interested at fishes and pelagics. Any suggestions?
I heard that Lomaiviti is good for pelagics, is that true? Thanks :D

3 very different areas there.

Taveuni: great for soft corals, great wide angle shots and all round good diving. Somosomo and Ranibow Reef (same thing) has excelletn diving year round. Good dive centres.

Rakiraki: assuming you mean diving the Vatu-i-Ra Channel, then great for pelagics and soft coral bommies (when tide is right). Only one real option at mo, Ra Divers.

Ovalau: most difficult to get to (believ it or not), and a bit weather dependant on where you can dive. But you can get some great pelagics. Ovalau Watersports is your option here

You may also consider:

Kadavu: great for silver tips and grey reef sharks, as well as the year round manta ray diving. Great hard coral on great Astrolabe Reef, as well as softs in channels. Good choice of resorts catering to divers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. How long is it to get to Suva from Beqa Lagoon? I am considering to spend 2 days in Beqa for shark feeding and then get to Suva to get on plane/ferry to Levuka and have the rest of my holiday there. By the way, is Suva safe? Thanks.

From Suva to Pacific Harbour (the pick up point for all Beqa resorts) and base for the shark divers is only a 30-40 min drive in a car or taxi. Nausori Airport is another 40 mins beyond Suva from Pac harbour.

Thanks. As this trip is on a tight budget, I have finally short-listed 2 accommodations in 2 different areas.
1. Stay in Levuka homestay and dive with Ovalau Watersports.
2. Stay in Daku Resort in Savusavu and dive with JEAN MICHEL COUSTEAU L'AVENTURE and Koro Sun. (Namena and Dreamhouse...)
Which area has better diving? Is Dreamhouse good?
Thanks.
