Hi Jaymi,

I was gazing longingly at my Fiji pics just last night. I know nothing about French Polynesia other than what I've read, which seems to stress hot current shark action and lovely topside. I do know that Fiji was an absolutely wonderful experience, from the famous splendorous soft corals to macro life to swarming reef fish to breathtaking topside scenery to probably the most welcoming and genuinely happy local folks I've experienced!

Fiji was *my* first Pacific experience after extensive diving in the Caribbean. I couldn't believe the contrast: so much more abundance and variety. While Papua New Guinea now ranks as my all time favorite, I have to say that I found almost every one of the species I saw in PNG in Fiji as well, though not the vast schools of Jacks and Cudas nor the intense number and variety of nudibranchs (nor pygmy seahorses).

I stayed at the Garden Island on Taveuni and Wananavu on Viti Levu. My Taveuni experience was the better of the two, but I was not able to dive the off shore sites in the BLigh Water from Wananavu due to inclement weather.

Here's a link to my original trip report:

Hope you have a blast, wherever you end up traveling.
