Hello:

My FFM plastic lense is getting filled with tiny hair scratches. I'm about to purchase another lens. Has anyone ever made thier own scratch shield to place over these lenses? How did you affix it? Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

Assuming the scratches are on the outside of the lens they are not that big of deal as they disappear in the water. And assuming you have a polycarbonate lens, most of the scratches probably occur during handling and storage. Keeping the mask in a clean cloth bag when not in use will prevent most of them.

There use to be a time that I stored my AGA in a nice, padded, zippered bag, wrapped gently in a towel. Now, I stuff between the layers of my exposure suit and keep it from pressure (being crushed). Care for the interior of the mask, the outside scratches will fill with water and you will be hard pressed to see even a bad scratch. I wouldn't buy a new visor if you only have some small scratches. It's not a bad idea if you want to keep a spare on hand. The Ocean Reef has a scratch shield, but it's more fluff, the reasoning being an attempt at adding value. With "reasonable" care, your Atmosphere should hold up fine.

You can pick up some polish, I get mine from McMaster-Carr.

It's the good stuff.
Make plastics (especially acrylic) look new again.
Heavy scratch remover repairs deep scratches. Requires fine scratch remover for final finishing. Not for coated plastics.
Fine scratch remover removes superficial scratches and haziness. Squeeze bottle.
