Hi,

Has anyone used the ferry service between Phuket and Koh Lanta?

Understand that it is a 4-hr journey. Is the ferry comfortable? What are the timings like?

Is there a better way to get from Phuket to Koh Lanta? Better as in faster and more comfortable.

On the return leg, what time does the ferry leave Koh Lanta for Phuket?

Many thanks.

I believe its phuket to phi phi, maybe swap boats, then to Lanta. The boat is decently fast, much faster than most of the dive boats and not uncomfortable. Though the phuket to phi phi leg can get crowded. There is no faster mass transit way to get to Lanta from Phuket. The only faster way I can think of to get to Lanta would be to charter a speed boat or sea plane. The phi phi to lanta ferry doesn't always run low season though (June-Aug).

KS, watboy has it pretty close to right. Another way to go would be to drive to Krabi and board the ferry there. It will take you the better part of the day no matter how you do it since you have to check out of you Phuket hotel and transfer to the ferry terminal, get the ferry to Phi Phi, get the next ferry to Lanta and finally get your transfer from the pier to your Lanta accommodations. The passenger ferries on the Phuket-Phi Phi-Lanta route are all large and comfortable. The ones that go from Krabi are car ferries, so you actually are doing the ferry crossing in a mini bus with other people. The crossing from Krabi to Lanta takes two short ferry rides, but the waiting time to board due to traffic can be considerable.

Finally, there's a helicopter transfer service, but it's way beyond the means of most of our visitors.
