Missed earlier log-thread from today but wanted to expand: what options have you guys used as your log books and why have you settled for your current versions? It looks like many use (DIY) sheet versions but are there any worthy ones to buy anywhere?

It looks like I will hit the last page of my first blue PADI booklet by the end of the season. I’d prefer to keep the booklet form and while I haven’t seen the red PADI booklet (are there others?), I find that this version lacks a few things (eg space for nitrox mixes). What I like about this one though is the size and the fairly water-resistant pages. Personally, I suspect that combo single sheets + own printer, would get me in a mess in less than a month. I can always re-memorize my long ponderings about gear/fish but I do not want to lose all those signatures!

So, any good ones you’ve stumbled upon? What kind of stuff do your good ones have in’em? Anyone know a good place to get something cool for a good price when I am still prolific?

If you get the Advanced Open Water book, you'll get the Red one. It's the same as the Blue, but less cert stuff in the beginning.

Brian - you sure?
I asked that exact question when tentatively booking myself for AOW for Sept 17/18
The guy in the shop said the PADI AOW package does not include the log book... hmpf

Spoon:
i dont like the padi stuff. too many redundant items. i llike my log books simple.

The best log book I have found is "Wet Notes". It is a bound book of blank waterproof pages. You can write whatever you want in it. I used to use composition books. They have the advantage of having lines for those of us with poor penmanship, but the pages are paper and don't stand up to wet conditions well.

i have the wetnotes but never thought of using it as a log book. i mainly use an ordinary log which lists your :

Date,
dive location,
objective,
max depth, ave depth
Equipment
Time in/Time out
Bottom Time
Hours to date:

and some notes from the dive.

well now - I never thought of the WetNotes that way either. Actually sounds like a good idea. The size is nice, can even have some action notes embedded in the story if desired...
One downside though - it's kinda few pages those things come with and I tend to doodle a lot... Anyone know a bulk seller?

it is a great idea isnt it? you can actually take impt notes with you underwater as well as review notes from previous dives. i would suggest though to transfer the dive info on a formal logbook to be left on land far away from the water:)

by the way my wet notes, not the ritchie brand has over 100 pages

dang - how come there never be a great idea without the little kick to the back of the head. If I was overconfident I'd probably trust myself to drag the only log-info down to be shared with the fish... but now I have to re-think. In these silty waters even yellow covers aren't going to be much help when I drop that thing. And one clumsy drop per book will be enough. Duh. I guess I have to forget the true action-version and have only notes for water then...

I’m working on a form to print 2 dive forms on one side of a sheet with a grid on the backside for my logbook using Rite In The Rain paper.
