Wondering what your favorite shops in Denver/Boulder area for gear?

I'm partial to Flatirons in Broomfield, and had a good visit to A-1 last year, but to save some serious drive and shopping time, I thought I'd ask for some other advice.

Looking for Regs/BCD/Computer for myself. Bought my wife's gear last year at Flatirons - would it make the most sense to get the same brand regs for serviceability???? (Scubapro regs for her).

Any sales going on around town??? :D

Gobe Divers has some things on sales and scubapro says if you get a reg and bc you get a free computer it is a Aladin Prime if you dont need that one you can get others Petter has a list with the new cost for them you can check them out a gobedivers.com thay are closed on tuesdays

Underwater Phantaseas South in Greenwood Village is my shop. They have a number of great promos going on--carry ScubaPro, Atomic, Aqualung. Great staff and knowledgeable. They won't try to sell you something that you don't need. Ryan and Brian are great, and so are Jill and Michelle. I've been in a couple of other dive shops, and always feel welcome here--they get to know you and take the time to talk to you and understand what you are looking for and what will best suit your needs, and they are very patient with questions and answer them in terms that you'll understand. Ryan and Brian also do all of the service. Give them a shot. As far as getting the same equipment for serviceability, it really doesn't matter. It may make more sense from a sense of knowing each other's equipment as buddies--configurations, etc.

I use Ocean First Divers in Boulder. (Disclosure: I do contract instructing for them.) They carry ScubaPro, Aqualung, Atomic, and Henderson for their primary equipment. They sell Whites dry suits as well. They are just getting going on their technical lines.

The shop has its own dedicated dive pool set at a cozy 87 degrees.

A-1 Scuba was mentioned in your post, so I will second that shop. I did my pool section for my Open Water certification along with purchasing some personal gear there. I have nothing but praise for that shop.

On a different note, we live all the way near buckley airforce base in Aurora so it's a bit of a hike for us also. But for the minimal times we actually go there it's not that big of a deal.

All Best,
Brad

Different shops carry different lines of gear. I use A1 for training, but don't purchase much gear locally due to pricing. I generally shop at ScubaToys (TX), and LeisurePro (NY) for new gear, but have used many shops in the past including some local purchases.

A1 has a May sale in (drumroll, MAY) where some deals can be found. Flat Irons is a good shop for Tech training, and they carry more tech gear than most shops in the area. A1 is also starting to carry more tech gear.

If you want to purchase locally, I'd suggest to shop around. Most shops will do some kind of discounting if you make large purchases from them, but IMO it's hard to beat online pricing. Most local shops don't even try as their market is the new diver who does not realize that a mask does not cost $75 everywhere.

I have to agree with Ron. Great deals on line.

Thanks guys.

I went with a DSS backplate and wing setup (purchased direct on-line) and picked up regs from Flatirons. After checking around, most of the shops are comparable on price and service, so I figured I'd stay loyal as FI has always been helpful.

Not sure why, but I felt like purchasing regs locally was a better move than buying on-line.

Thanks!
