HI
Trying to find out a bit more about this place. Does the room rate include any meals? Who runs the diving? Is it done from the resort or do we book with an outside company? Any advice or comments very welcome.
Thanks
Jo

Hi Heg,

Assuming you mean Fatboys in Gizo, Solomon Islands, I haven't been there for a while (I own the dive shop in Munda, about 90 minutes away by boat, so we don't get over to Gizo much), but so far as I know meals are priced separately. Diving is usually through Adventure Sports - Dive Gizo, who'll pick you up from Fatboys. Sanbis resort, at the other end of the island Fatboys is on, have their own small diving operation, but I don't know if they take guests from other resorts.

Fatboys email, according to the Solomon Telekom phone book at least, is fatboysresort@gmail.com, or you could contact Danny or Kerrie (owners of Dive Gizo) at DiveGizo@solomon.com.sb for more information - they'll be more up to date on Fatboys than I am anyway.

[SHAMELESS PLUG] Or you could come diving in Munda! :D [\SHAMELESS PLUG]

i thought he was loking for other advice!

That doesn't seem right. Oh, it's probably accurate, but it doesn't seem right. If you're going to name your resort "Fat Boys" I think you are obligated to have a 24-hour all-you-can-eat buffet, don't you?
:D

LMAO! We tried to get to you in September but couldnt get a room. Is Munda better than Gizo? (mind you, I'm asking the wrong person here aren't I ;)

Where were you trying to book? If you have problems with accommodation, drop us an email and we can always try to make something happen for you. Accommodation options can be limited here, given that we're in the back end of nowhere, but it's rare for there to be nowhere available.

As to which is better... Happy to babble about how good I think the diving here is, but always feel really uncomfortable when asked to compare with anywhere else. Plus, it's so subjective: for every person who likes A more than B, there's usually someone who likes B more than A. They're probably wrong, mind you, but there's always someone... :D

I stayed at Fatboys for 3 nights a couple of years ago.
Meals are not included (Basic breakfast may be included). Lunch & dinner were good value, lots of seafood. The villas are very nice. The resort is a good place to stay if you are bringing the wife/girlfriend
The resort does not have a dive shop. There are 2 dive companies in Gizo. I dived with Dive Gizo (the dive shop is located in the main town about 10 mins by boat from Fatboys resort).
Each day the boat would collect me from the resort on the way to the dive sites.
fatboys is a great place to chill out and do a couple of dives. Unfortunately the reefs i saw at Gizo were all broken up by the tsunami. The WWII wreck was nice & there is also a nice shallow zero fighter wreck.

Munda offers much better diving IMHO, but accom is not so nice compared to Fatboys. Anges lodge is ok

If i was going to relax, chill for a few days i would head to Gizo. If i was going just to dive i would head to Munda!!

Anybody been to Uepi? I am heading to the Solomons in April. Bilikiki or Uepi???

Thanks Kevster. We are going to dive, so looks like Munda...

Our frieinds have been to Uepi and thought it was great. They have also done the Bilikiki and loved it. Said the boat was looking a liitle but tired but food and diving was fabulous.
