We are going to FIBR in April, when we were there 2 years ago, Mark Washington was our DM. We have heard he went to CoCo View, we thought he was very good. Does anyone have favorite DM from FIBR?

We just want to have our ducks in a row and have another great trip!

All the DM's at FIBR last week seemed to be local islanders. The one I had was not all that impressive - didnt really point out many things. We did see some nice spotted drums. Don't know about the others as to how good they were are finding stuff so can only provide feedback on the DM I had (Henry).

Our last trip to FIBR was in Dec. ....we originally were on Miss Kem with Derry and he just didn't seem to be very helpful and/or motivated......the last two days he was on his days off and we switched to the Little Kashi and dove with Darren......he was great and we would highly recommend that you request him......let him know that the Cajuns, the Tennesssee connection and "Doc" said to take good care of you. Have a great time, wish we were headed back.

Pedro and Miguel took excellent care of us on Lil' Kashi. They went above what all the other dive boats did and offered. Sometimes simple things like cutting the fruit to eat. Other boats you had to bust out your own dive knife. They also made sure we had nitrox tanks when they were low on filled tanks.

We also have used Derry in our last three years at FIBR. Last year, on the last two days he didn't even go in the water with us. Just dropped us off and said "we will find you." Now granted, we are solid divers and we can take care of ourselves, but it is nice to have someone show you stuff you don't normally see. Maybe time to request a new DM.

Regards,
Dave (aka "Squirt")

Was going to recommend Derry, he was the DM on our boat the last time we were there. For those on the boat that liked having a DM around, he did a great job of pointing things out. But now, it looks like 3+ years at 6 days a week of diving has taken its toll on him.

When I was there 2 years ago, my DM was great. (Can't recall his name) He and the boat captain regularly loaded the tanks and switched out equipment. You didn't have to worry about a thing. The only problem was a few times, on the afternoon dive, we got put on a different boat with a bunch of amateurs. That sucked. But the rest of the time they would take just 2 of us out on our own boat, and drop us off at a site to look around. I didn't mind that the DM wasn't diving with us actually, it's fun to explore and be out on your own. I had plenty of leadership by the DM on the first 2 dives. They also cut up all the fruit and had it waiting. It was truly a great week diving there, and my best "dive" vacation ever.

So if you go out a day and don't like your DM or boat captain, request a change. Ask people on the other boats how their DM is, and if they say he's good, switch to him. It's part our responsibility to take care of ourselves, and not get stuck with mediocrity. Besides, they might not even know a DM isn't providing the services you like unless you tell them.
