I don’t get down to Monterey often enough to proclaim insider knowledge as to how good or bad Monterey Bay diving conditions can get but I do know that a couple friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the diving this weekend. Sunny skies, decent vis and warm(relatively) water made for excellent diving! We didn’t do anything too adventurous. In fact, apart from on dive at Macabee we dove at the Breakwater all weekend. I’m always pleasantly surprised at how much there is to see if you take the time to explore this easy beginner friendly area. Here are a few photos from the weekend…

Great shots, can't wait to dive Monterey.

Outstanding diving last weekend. At 67' could clearly see the boat.

at the breakwater early sunday morning, 50-60 foot vis at 7am, unbelieveable. Saturday was clear too. Flat, and clear, and the water warmed up to 60, a good weekend. I must say though, that the thermocline was between 30-40 feet, and it made a big difference, dropping to 53

yup, was taking my drysuit class, was almost glad to see the cold water down deeper, reminded me that the drysuit wasn't in vain!!

We did the Pinnacles on Saturday (Monterey Express). Very cold down around 70-80ft. Heard someone say they saw 43F on their computer . . . hard to believe. It was calm with great vis.

Yep, if you see these, you know it's cold.............Metridium Anemone

BTW, we saw a school of what I am told were Risso (sp?) Dolphins; large, shy creatures with a big splash of white on them. 'Very cool!' as my son exclaimed. Anybody know anything about this species?
