Hi there,
I would like to buy some underwater housing for my nikon D70s, but I have a sigma 17-70mm lens. Does anyone know if the standard port that comes with the FD70 will be ok?? If not, then what other model do you recommend? Thanx so much!

Hi;

I'll be sorting this out with my new D80 housing as I have a Sigma 17-70 too. I think the new semi-dome port with an extension ring will do the trick. It is designed for these types of zoom lenses.

BTW, the FD70N has been very hard to get a hold of lately, but we're supposed to get stock in a couple of weeks.

Here's the new semi-dome port, MSRP ~ $245 or so. It will have to be ordered in addition to the housing.

It should be available mid-February.

Hi There,

Thank you very much for the reply. I was getting pretty desperate there as I will be off to the Philippines and Borneo pretty soon and hadn't come close to finding the answers yet. A few more questions though...

Forgot to mention it's not the f2.8 it's the f2.8-4.5.

What else would I need to complete the set-up. ie. lighting, attachments, flashes etc. I don't want to go all out but would like to have a good set-up that wont leave me wanting sub-surface!

Can one buy the housing without the standard port? cos I can only find it with the port.

Thanks once again, really appreciate it!

Yeah, got the lens on my D80 right here... 2.8-4.5.

What's pretty soon? I doubt this all is going to get into stock until mid-February. I will have first stock of all the new housings and the semi-dome port though.

No, all the housings come with the standard port. You may be able to use it with the 60mm macro. They are changing things around it's hard to know right now. We actually had a few FD70Ns with the semi dome ship as standard a month ago, but I think those are long gone. As I said, they are very hard to find, but we should have them in stock on a couple of weeks. Let me know and we can pre-order one for you and get you in line, no cost.

As far as what all else you need, I have a couple of packages, but I'd recommend one, or two, SB800 Nikon strobes and FSB800 housings or my "2fer" SB800 package, and a couple of sets of our new large, lightweight arms. The housed SB800 works very well in i-TTL modes with the D70, even in master-slave configuration with two (there's a link on my website showing how to set it up).

Our LED44 Focus light and port mount is pretty essential for macro.

Other than that it really depends on what you will be shooting and what other lenses you have? A dome port and a Sigma 15mmFE is a really good combo, as is the 60mm Nikkor macro and macro port. Maybe an orange filter.

Please see my website and email me for whatever help I can be. I can get anything in the Fantasea catalog, not just what's on my website. I am diver and available to help you in configuring your system, unlike the mail order places.

The semi-dome port will retail for $350, street price around $305. I was way off on my post above.
