keep in mind the OP had reported a harmonic in the first stage, indicative of lube or o-ring issue...

Am also trying to contact SP direct but your online contact form is faulty, it keeps saying to Select a topic but there is nothing in the drop down menu so cannot actually send. Can't believe how difficult it is to make contact with SP.
This is the message I'm trying to send:

Hi there,

I have a brand new MK25 Evo I'm using 2 G250 second stages , one is attached to the 5th port on a 5ft hose. If I initiate a free flow using the non 5th port second stage the free flow is so violent it sounds like a machine gun or helicopter, it also then creates the 5th port reg to flow air. I've tried 6 different second stages not all SP and all do the same. When those six are attached to a different non 5th non port non SP first stage there is no issue. The problem most definitely stems from the MK25.

If I plug the 5th port there is no problem.

SP Japan and my LDS are trying to tell me that the problem is because I'm using a long hose, 5', and the 5th port. This seems strange, so I have a 5th port I cannot actually use?

I owned another MK25 with two G260s same set up no problem.

Can you please advise as I cannot seem to get a satisfactory response thus far from SP.

A reply would be appreciated, I have in the past sent several emails using your online contact but never received any replies. Thus far my experience with your customer service has been very poor.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Simon

Looks like Kate has not been seen since Oct 2014. Is anyone at SP montoring this forum anymore? Can't seem to find any recent posts by a rep.

Hi there,

I live in Japan and recently bought from a private owner a brand new, never been wet MK25 EVO I paid just over $200. Long story short couldn't get it to perform properly, my LDS took the 1st stage apart and there is a very noticeable flat edge on the piston as though it has been hit on one side with a hammer, given the reg is brand new this is obviously (?) a manufacturing defect.

Are you talking about a little flat on the edge of the white composite piston head?

I've attached a picture. If this is what you're talking about then no, that's not a manufacturing defect. I forget the details but it has something to do with the anti-icing technology, breaking up ice forming on the wall of the cylinder or around the o-ring. This picture shows two brand-new/factory pistons.

If this is the case, I'm a little worried about who took your reg apart. The MK25 has certain peculiarities and should only be serviced by an experienced factory trained tech. It's odd to me that your LDS fixated on that little flat. As others have mentioned harmonics and noise are usually the result of improper lubrication or incorrect o-ring on the piston shaft.

FYI, I've also experienced the long hose/5th port/violent over-purge issue. Never could trace it down to a particular component, I could swap out various MK25's and different 2nd stages. My best guess is it has something to do with the mass of the air moving through the 5th port and through the long hose.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, you are correct re the flat spot and SP said the same. A very strange issue indeed, I had another MK25 with some G260s and it wouldn't do this. Given SP said all was functioning as it should must be some some strange combination of things that only manifests itself on certain regs. As this answer was not satisfactory to me and fine or not, the extremely violent free flow bothered me so I sold the MK25. Paired the G250s with a DS4 and now no such free flows. The "mystery" continues. Strange that it's only an occasional issue with certain combinations.
