Looking to buy my first tank, and I've narrowed it down to these two. The HP117 is $313 and the HP100 is $284, both new. Not a huge price difference, but I'm wondering if I'll really benefit from the extra volume of the 117, and that's an almost $60 savings when buying two. I don't foresee myself diving doubles, and I carry a 30cf pony already for redundancy. I do a lot of 60fsw dives, but occasionally I dive to about 90fsw when the charters are doing wreck dives.

I'm 5'6" so I'm wondering if the shorter size of the HP117 would be a benefit. The boat I go out on can fit 8" diameter tanks, and I'd be surprised to find a charter down here in South Florida that couldn't. I mostly want to have my own tank(s) for when I want to shore dive at the Blue Heron Bridge, but extra air would be great, as I do dive with some people that use higher volume tanks, and my girlfriend can do a 45 minute dive on an AL80 and surface with 2000psi.

I'd go 117 if I were you. Check for used though, can save quite a bit of money going that route, especially if you can find PST or Worthingtons which are hot dip galvanized and may hold up a bit better in the salty stuff if you can't soak them very well

I ended up buying the 117's. I looked for some used steel tanks, and there wasn't anything in my area, although there were quite a few for sale about an hour south of me in Miami. I've never had great luck buying stuff used, and I would hate to buy a tank and then a few years from now have it fail hydro, or discover rust or something! I figure I'll be using these tanks for the next 20-30 years (I'm only 24).

The one downside to this that I now have to carry tanks to and from my car. It was nice just carrying the rest of my gear onto boat!

Kairoos, Can you PM me where you found a new 117HP for that price. I'm also in the market for a second 117. Thanks
