Hi,

I have read some of the other posts regarding the same issue but don't understand the differences or what one is a better quality

Faber offers two High Pressure Tanks.

One Tank is coated in a white paint and the other is painted in a green grey color.

What tank should I buy,

I have read that one valve is by XS Scuba and the other is by Faber.

Why is there two color tanks, this is something that I can not figure out.

I believe they are the same tanks with different paint and valves. XS Scuba previously sold cylinders made by Worthington that had a thick galvanized finish with no paint. The Worthington cylinders are no longer available so I suppose XS Scuba thought grey paint would appeal to those seeking the more desirable Worthington's.

What Tank would you purchase?

One shop has a tank with a white finish
The other shop has one with the gunmetal finish

Prices is within $20.00 of each other.

Assuming they are the same tank with different paint I would probably buy the grey ones. Only because they probably have a later born on date. Scuba shops begin to discount new old stock tanks the further they get from the manufacture date. I would ask the seller about the born on date of the tanks because the more years you have until hydro the better.

Faber white. If it is the Faber valve convertible to use on a manifold, it will be easier to carry.

So the white is preferable to the gunmetal.

I am also going to check the dates.

They're the same tanks, with different valves (if you compare the dimensions and buoyancy characteristics, the two tanks are the same). That said, I own both, and I like the boot the white Faber comes with better, but I like the XS Scuba valve better. Both great tanks though.

I have always seen XS Scuba as an inferior brand.

But it the valves should be ok
I don't understand why you would. They put out some very high quality items. Plus they don't make the tanks. They just distribute them.

The color makes no difference in quality or performance of the cylinder. If the color reflects a difference in valves, that may be an issue.

I personally would not own Blue Steel valves. I think they are cheap, and the quality of manufacturing is poor. In fairness, maybe they have improved in the past two years. But, having serviced them, in the past, I wouldn't own one even if it was given to me. If you are paying $20 less because you are getting a Blue Steel valve, you are not getting a sufficient discount.

I agree with Jim, I see no basis for such an assessment. Their products are generally of commendable quality, certainly better than Blue Steel. Now, if you said that about Trident . . .
