Hi,

I have an Inon z240 linked via a fibre optic cable to the Canon WP DC 21 housing. The internal flash is covered by a piece of white plastic (the inon clear system). The internal flash goes off and triggers the strobe.

1. Do you think I need to fully mask up the inside of the housing to prevent the bit of light from the internal flash causing backscatter ?

2. Should the white piece of plastic be not white but darker ?

Thanks

I block all of the light with an external shield that I made out of dark plastic but unless you see evidence of backscatter that is caused by the internal flash then I see no reason to cover it completely. On occasion I like to include the light from the flash to get the lighting effect I want which is the reason I use an external and UW removable guard instead of the internal system Inon sold. It is possible Inon decided it was helpful to include some of the flash to do some fill lighting? Bottom line, unless you can find backscatter in your photos that is caused by the internal flash or it is causing overexposure, I see no reason to completely block it.

Two pieces of Clear Photo Film and five adhesive masks. Attach to Canon cameras used in WP-DC40 and WP-DC1 housings. Clear Photo Film blocks visible light coming from camera’s internal strobe, preventing backscatter. Non-visible light passes through the film to fiber optic cable to optically trigger strobe.
I'm guessing yours works similarly..

Thanks a lot. I didnt get these instructions when I got mine. This gives me reassurance. Great.
